Health and Fitness

Health and Fitness

In the present time fitness and health play a major role in peoples lives. As they say, “Health is wealth”, and being healthy includes having a healthy mind because only healthy minds will be able to conduct a healthy life.

According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, health is defined as “the condition of being sound in body, mind, or spirit; especially:  freedom from physical disease or pain.” It originates from the word helthe, from Old English hǣlth, from hāl its first Known Use: before 12th century. Synonyms of the words health are fitness, wellness, heartiness and wholeness. An example of the world health in a sentence is, “She looks so healthy with her red cheeks and bright eyes."

I think that each one of us has a different view of what health is because each person has a different definition of what a healthy mind and body is.
A person that is actively involved in sports will obviously have a different view of the concept of being healthy, than a person that’s physically weak.

One of the ways of having a healthy mind is; reading, doing crosswords and puzzles and not just attaching yourself to an electronic device that gets you all the information you want. A person should always challenge himself think out of the box and do stuff that make his brainwork. Exercising is tremendously important, and a person that wants to be healthy shouldn’t just have a healthy mind he should also have a healthy body to help him with being healthy. Being active helps a person with living longer, being fit and having a stronger body that would fight the unhealthiness back.

One of the main ways of being healthy is eating right. When your body gets used to eating enough nutrients and adjusts to your new diet, you’ll start seeing a change not just your physical appearance but also your mental state. Also eating right cleans out your body and removes toxins. Your skin will look smoother, hair will be thicker, and acne will no longer be there. Another way of being healthy is exercising. It increases self-esteem and decreases the level of stress. There are two ways of exercising, exercising your body physically and exercising your mind mentally.

Stress is one of the main reasons that cause poor health; nowadays having a stressful life is the new normal. Many people don’t know how to cope with it, which results into depression, a lot of health issues and an unbalanced lifestyle. If a person is under stress he should always jot down a to-do list, and organize a schedule for himself to help him cope with the stress and make stuff more organized so he can accomplish more stuff than just stressing out and wasting time.

The World Health Organization says:
“Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.’- Preamble to the Constitution of the World Health Organization (1948).”
In this case, it’s shown that health can be affected physically, mentally and socially. As I researched, health is composed of three important components, Physical – how healthy your body is. Social – ability to cope with the people around you. Emotional – how you cope with emotions, and hard situations. For this case, I believe that a person that can look after himself; physically, socially and emotionally is considered healthy.

Analyzing a few quotes that might explain health:

“Living a healthy lifestyle will only deprive you of poor health, lethargy, and fat.” ~ Jill Johnson

In other words Jill Johnson stated that, when a person lives a healthy life it keep him away from poor health, and all its side effects. The author of this quote used persuasion; she connected having a healthy life with being further away from an unhealthy lifestyle. Jill Johnson chose simple yet powerful words, to show the importance of having a healthy lifestyle.

Julius Erving stated, “If you don’t do what’s best for your body, you’re the one who comes up on the short end.” He was straight to the point, stating that if a person doesn’t care for his body, his end might be closer.

“A man’s health can be judged by which he takes two at a time – pills or stairs.” ~ Joan Welsh

Joan Welsh explained the concept of how a man’s health is judged by using those two words  “pills or stairs”, by pills she meant medicine, which gets taken after a person becomes sick to make him healthy again on the other hand the use of the word stairs in my opinion was used for a persons physical ability. A person that needs pills to move is considered less healthy than a person that can just go up and down the stairs without help or anything.

Positive view of health is the healthier a person is the longer they will live. On the other hand, the negative view of health is that many people misunderstand the concept of being healthy with what they see on the television; they mistake a fit body with a skinny one. The concept of being fit has changed over time; due to the way media emphasized it by showing skinny models and skinny figures on TV, which leads to anorexia and psychological issues.

There are a few main obstacles and causes of bad health.
·      Genetics (some people are born with some diseases they cant get rid of no matter what)
·      Mental disabilities
·      Physical disabilities
·      Geographic location (which biases a person to certain conditions)
·      Lifestyle (if a person has a bad lifestyle: for example, sleeps late eats unhealthy obviously he will be in risk of having a bad health)

To conclude fitness is the key to success. Without fitness and health nothing can be achieved in life. However only healthy people can work hopefully. Most probably people with weak health always feel sick and tired.
